    About Your Rocna Swivel

    Built for strength and performance

Most anchoring failures trace back to a chain, shackle, or connector that couldn’t handle the load. The Rocna Swivel is built from G70 duplex stainless steel to bridge your anchor and rode without adding a weak point. It also keeps your chain from twisting under load and helps your anchor seat cleanly on the bow roller when you bring it up.

    Installation

    Three steps to a setup

Proper installation connects the swivel to your anchor via a shackle, never directly to the shank, and threads the chain through the built-in chain pin. Your whole rode is only as strong as its weakest link, so match components by breaking strength.

    01

    Attach to your anchor

Loop a bow shackle through the anchor shank attachment point and pass the pin through the swivel. Check that the shackle articulates freely in all directions.

    02

    Attach to your chain

Insert the chain pin through your chain’s end-link, seat the swivel joint head in its cavity, and join the two chain-side bodies. Tighten the clamp screw to 20 N•m.

    03

    Match rode components

Select shackles that match or exceed your chain’s rated breaking strength. Seize screw-pin shackles with two turns of stainless seizing wire.

    The Critical Fastener

The Rocna Swivel uses a Nord-Lock® locking washer pair to prevent the clamp screw from backing out under load. The washer pair and anti-seize paste must both be present and correct every time you reassemble the swivel.

    Tightening the screw

Install the Nord-Lock® washer pair under the screw head. The serrations (fine teeth) on both of the washers must face away from each other, and the cams must face toward each other.

Insert the screw and turn clockwise gently by finger until the screw stops against the swivel. Do not try to tighten at all. Note the rotational position of the screw.

Using the supplied key or a square-drive bit with an appropriate tool, tighten the screw no more than 60°.

    Tightening the screw

Tightening the screw with a torque-wrench

You may instead tighten the screw according to the following torque values.

Swivel Chain Pin Size Drive Torque
    12 mm T45 20 N•m / 15 lbf•ft

⚠ Do not over-tighten the screw.

Never substitute the screw or washers. The clamp screw and Nord-Lock® washer pair are specially designed for this swivel. Do not replace lost parts with off-the-shelf hardware, even if it appears to fit.

    Using Your Swivel

The Rocna Swivel keeps your chain and rode straight during anchoring and reduces resistance from chain-twist when you recover your anchor. When bringing the anchor onto a bow roller, pause the windlass as the shackle or shank first meets the roller. Give the anchor time to rotate into position, then proceed slowly until it seats.

Ensure the swivel can always articulate freely and forces are always applied inline with the axis of the swivel.

    Swivel Care

G70 duplex stainless is built for use in seawater, but a few simple habits extend its life and keep it performing reliably season after season.

    Rinse with fresh water

Built-in flushing drains will keep the interior clean.

    Stow dry with airflow

Dry storage and circulation will keep the swivel in good shape.

    Protect the surface

Stainless steel polish for light duty and citric or phosporic acid to handle oxidation.

    Full service routine

Annually disassemble, rinse with fresh water, inspect screw and washers for wear, apply nickel anti-seize, and reassemble to torque specs.
